Football Offensive Line Drills-Guidelines For Implementing Them Yourself

Offensive Linemen are some of the most important players in football. It is up to them to make sure that all of the offensive plays run smoothly. If not than the offensive team doesn’t score and the game can’t be won. It is for this reason that they have to be on top of their game and making plays correctly.

It isn’t just important that they are making plays it is also important that they are in shape. They need to be in shape in order to continue to play effectively and last for as long as the quarters go. If they cannot last the duration of the quarter than the team suffers as a whole.

The first drill ends up placing one offensive lineman at the bottom of a hill. Placed on the hill are 2 defensive linemen. The offensive linemen in this case linemen 1 needs to push one of them up the hill as quickly as he can. Once the whistle is then blown the 1st linemen then needs to switch to the 2nd defender and try to push him up the hill as well. This is an extremely ravaging exercise that helps the linemen build strength, stamina, and endurance.

There is a second very common exercise that the linemen practice that most of us have seen on TV at one point or another. It is a drill using the blocking shield. This shield looks like a pad that is up right and attached to a small metal structure. Usually someone is standing on the metal structure to give it weight and resistance. The linemen than have to push this shield as quickly as they can backward with the person on top of it.

These football offensive line drills are meant to be tough and physically exhausting. If they weren’t the players wouldn’t be getting the adequate training that they need to become good players.
